By framing groundwater as A Tool for Peace, the 54th IAH World Groundwater Congress will move beyond traditional technical discussions toward transformative, solution-oriented dialogue that connects science with real-world impact.
Guadalajara was selected to host the IAH Congress 2027 because it offers an exceptional combination of scientific relevance, accessibility, infrastructure, and cultural identity. Located in Jalisco, the city is close to groundwater-dependent regions facing challenges such as water scarcity, aquifer overexploitation, rapid urban growth, agricultural demand, and climate variability—all highly relevant to contemporary hydrogeology. Guadalajara is also one of Mexico’s main academic, technological, and cultural centers, with excellent connectivity and strong university infrastructure. At the same time, hosting the congress in Jalisco gives participants the opportunity to experience some of Mexico’s most emblematic traditions, including tequila, mariachi, charreada, agave landscapes, and the rich cuisine and architecture of Guadalajara and its surroundings. This combination of scientific importance and distinctive regional character makes Guadalajara an ideal setting for a truly memorable international groundwater congress.
