About

Groundwater:
A tool for peace

Groundwater connects communities, ecosystems, and nations. By advancing cooperation, equitable access, shared knowledge, and resilient water management, groundwater can help build trust, strengthen water security, and contribute to a more peaceful and sustainable future.

Mexico, like many countries around the world, faces complex challenges, including aquifer overexploitation, land subsidence, water-quality degradation, and governance conflicts among sectors and regions.

By framing groundwater as a tool for peace, the 54th IAH World Groundwater Congress will move beyond traditional technical discussions toward transformative, solution-oriented dialogue that connects science with real-world impact.

Themes

The Congress programme will be developed collaboratively with the international groundwater community. The Scientific Committee has prepared an initial framework of Congress Themes and Subthemes to provide a foundation of the development of the scientific programme.
